Met Office Names 8 UK Regions for Heavy Rain This Weekend

The Met Office has forecast heavy rain across most of the UK this weekend, ending weeks of hot weather. Eight regions are expected to see significant downpours on Saturday and Sunday.

Rain Moving South

A band of rain is predicted to hit Scotland's north west coast early Saturday and move slowly southward. By 7am Sunday, rain will cover swathes of Wales, north west England, Yorkshire, and the Midlands, spreading to the south west by 10am.

The worst conditions are expected around 1pm Sunday, when most of the country will be cloudy. Showers should stop for most by 10pm, but the heaviest downpours could hit East Yorkshire near Hull, with 16-32mm of rain forecast.

Regions Affected

The eight regions expecting heavy rainfall are: Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, North West England, South West England, North East England, Yorkshire and the Humber, Midlands, and East Anglia and central England. London and the south east will be spared heavy downpours, though scattered showers are possible.

Temperature Outlook

Temperatures will be relatively cool for the season, with highs of 23C on Saturday and 20C on Sunday. No weather warnings are in place.
