Temperatures across the UK are set to plunge on Sunday, with more than 200 areas expected to fall below 10°C just days after a heatwave saw the mercury reach the mid-30s in the south east. According to forecasts from Net Weather, released on Wednesday (July 29), 204 council areas in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland will see single-figure temperatures on the morning of Sunday, August 2.
Colder morning but warmer later
The Met Office outlook for Friday, July 31 to Sunday, August 2 states: “Friday and the weekend will hold onto a fresher feel. There will be a lot of dry weather with some sunny spells, though one or two showers are also possible.”
Although the morning will be cool, temperatures are expected to climb during the day. The forecast high is 26°C in London and Brighton, while Belfast will reach 19°C, Cardiff 25°C, Edinburgh 20°C, and Manchester 22°C.
Regional breakdown of areas below 10°C
Among the 204 council areas, 29 are in Scotland, 15 in Wales, 9 in Northern Ireland, and 151 in England. The lowest temperatures are expected around 3am to 6am.
Scotland: All 29 council areas including Highland, Moray, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Dundee, Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Clackmannanshire, Falkirk, Fife, Edinburgh, West Lothian, Midlothian, East Lothian, Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, South Ayrshire, East Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway.
Wales: 15 areas including Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham, Powys, Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Monmouthshire, Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Northern Ireland: 9 areas including Derry City and Strabane, Fermanagh and Omagh, Mid Ulster, Causeway Coast and Glens, Mid and East Antrim, Antrim and Newtownabbey, Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Lisburn and Castlereagh, Newry, Mourne and Down.
England: 151 areas spanning the North East, North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, West Midlands, East Midlands, East of England, and South West. Key cities include Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Birmingham, Leicester, Norwich, and Gloucester.
