The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for strong winds across 57 areas of the UK over the Easter bank holiday weekend. Storm Dave is expected to bring wet, windy and much colder conditions, with gusts of up to 90mph possible in exposed locations.
The warnings are in place from 6pm on Saturday until 12pm on Sunday. Gusts of 50-60mph are expected widely, with 60-70mph in exposed areas and a risk of 80-90mph in western Scotland. Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast for Good Friday, with blustery conditions around the Pennines.
Scotland and Northern Ireland may see brighter weather with sunny intervals and showers, but wintry conditions are possible over hills. A cold plunge from Canada will strengthen the jet stream, deepening a low-pressure system towards the northwest of the UK on Saturday night.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Holley advised keeping up to date with forecasts. The Met Office also recommended preparing for power cuts by gathering torches, batteries and phone chargers, and securing loose objects such as garden furniture and bins.
Drivers and rail passengers are urged to check for disruption before travelling, and people are warned to stay away from large waves and cliff edges. Weather warnings may change quickly.
