A 15-hour yellow weather warning has been issued as thunderstorms are expected to impact parts of Wales. The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning as "heavy showers and thunderstorms will likely to lead to some travel disruption and flash flooding" in areas of north Wales.
There will likely be some travel disruption and homes and businesses could be flooded due to the heavy rain forecast for north Wales from 7pm on Wednesday until 10am on Thursday.
Dry land contributes to flood risk
The continuous hot, dry weather has dried up land across Wales contributing to flood risk as water pools on the land surface.
Heavy rain of up to 30-50mm over six hours overnight from Wednesday into Thursday in north Wales is likely to cause flooding.
Met Office warning details
The Met Office weather warning issued on Wednesday morning states: "Heavy showers will develop this evening, becoming more frequent and widespread overnight.
"These are likely to bring 15-20mm in an hour in some areas with as much as 30-50mm falling in a period of six hours in some places. These accumulations may lead to a few places seeing some flooding."
"Alongside the rain some showers are likely to be thundery bringing the additional hazards of lightning and hail. The showers will ease from the northwest Thursday morning."
Areas affected and travel impact
Areas issued with the yellow weather warning include Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Anglesey and Wrexham.
Driving condition are likely to be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus, and train journeys may also see delays.
The forecaster also predicts that there will "probably be some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes" alongside a flood risk for homes and businesses.
