UK Weather: 9 Areas Set for Heavy Downpours This Weekend

The Met Office has warned that nine areas of the UK are set for heavy downpours on Saturday and Sunday, ending weeks of wall-to-wall sunshine.

After a warm and dry Friday in most parts, the weather is expected to turn cooler over the weekend, with rain moving southeast across the UK. The Met Office also expects breezy conditions on Saturday.

Areas most impacted

The following regions are forecast to bear the brunt of the rain:

  • Scotland
  • Wales
  • Northern Ireland
  • North West England
  • South West England
  • North East England
  • Yorkshire and the Humber
  • Midlands
  • East Anglia and Central England

Those in the southeast and around London will be spared most of the rain, with temperatures reaching around 28°C on Saturday, about ten degrees warmer than other parts of the country.

Weekend outlook

The Met Office said: "Very warm sunshine in the southeast on Saturday. Some showery rain moving southeast across the UK this weekend though, introducing cooler, breezy conditions. Further rain in the north on Monday."

Into next week, conditions are expected to be changeable, with a north/south weather divide likely.
