Fresh UK weather maps indicate another spell of hot weather could arrive across Britain next week, with temperatures climbing to 32C in parts of southern England. Forecast charts from WXCharts, using ECMWF data, show the mercury peaking on Wednesday, July 8, before remaining in the high 20s and low 30s through the end of the working week.
Hottest areas on July 8
According to the maps, temperatures are expected to reach 32C across parts of London, Essex, Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire on July 8. Elsewhere, highs of 30C to 31C are forecast for Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, while much of the Midlands is expected to reach the high 20s.
Heat spreading north
The warmth is also forecast to spread northwards, with temperatures of around 26C to 28C possible across parts of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Cheshire and the East Midlands. Wales is expected to see highs of 22C to 27C, with the warmest conditions across the south and east of the country. Further north, Scotland and Northern Ireland are forecast to remain cooler, although temperatures could still reach the low to mid-20s in eastern and southern areas.
Continued heat into Friday
By Friday, July 10, the charts suggest the heat will continue across southern and eastern England, with many areas still expected to see temperatures between 30C and 32C, while much of the rest of England and Wales remains in the mid to high 20s.
Met Office forecast
The forecast comes as the Met Office predicts high pressure will become established across much of the UK during the second week of July. In its long-range forecast covering Saturday, July 4, to Monday, July 13, the Met Office said: "High pressure will dominate across England and Wales over the weekend, bringing dry and warm conditions with plenty of sunshine for most. Scotland and Northern Ireland will probably see more cloud this weekend, with periods of rain mainly affecting western Scotland at times."
The Met Office added: "Into the following working week, high pressure remains slow moving over England and Wales, perhaps extending northwards to bring drier and warmer weather to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Winds will be light to moderate for most, though stronger around northern hills and coasts near low pressure systems. Temperatures will rise through the period, perhaps becoming very warm or hot in places."
