The Met Office has issued its verdict on the weather change expected this week, as temperatures drop after a scorching start to July. Large parts of the UK have enjoyed glorious sunshine over the past few weeks, with three heatwaves hitting the country so far this year. Temperatures exceeded 30°C in several regions, including Merseyside and the North West, earlier this month. People made the most of the sunshine, flocking to nearby beaches and towns like Formby and Southport.
Cooler Conditions Ahead
However, the 30°C weather has swiftly changed, with conditions now set to be in the low 20s for the rest of this week. In its outlook for Tuesday (July 21), the Met Office said: "Any early mist and fog quickly clearing to leave another largely dry and fine day. Cloud will tend to bubble up around the middle of the day with perhaps the odd shower developing. Feeling warm in the sunshine. Remaining fine and dry this evening with some late sunshine. Cloud likely to increase overnight but remaining dry across the region."
Weekend Rain Expected
Looking ahead to the end of the week, the UK forecaster said: "The largely dry, warm and settled theme continuing on Thursday and Friday. A change in the weather then expected on Saturday as a band of rain likely to move in." The upcoming period looks to be "largely changeable", with more rain than in recent weeks. The Met Office added: "Rain will spread southeast across most if not all parts of the UK through this weekend, with some showers following. Further bands of rain look likely to spread southeast next week, interspersed with sunny spells and some showers."
Temperatures Near Normal
It added: "Temperatures will be near or above normal, warmest in the south, and perhaps becoming very warm again by the start of August." The Liverpool weather forecast for the week shows highs of 22°C on Tuesday and Thursday, 21°C on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and 19°C on Sunday.
