The Met Office has confirmed that Greater Manchester is set to be hit by another heatwave, with temperatures expected to soar later this week. After a brief respite from the June heatwave, the region will see a rapid rise in temperatures from Wednesday onwards, potentially reaching 29°C on Thursday and Friday.
Weekend and Early Week Outlook
Monday and Tuesday will see more moderate conditions, with highs of 22°C. Monday will start overcast but give way to sunny intervals from late morning, a pattern that will continue into Tuesday. However, from Wednesday, the weather will turn significantly hotter, with clear skies and temperatures climbing to 27°C.
Heatwave Threshold Met
According to the Met Office, an official heatwave in Greater Manchester is defined as three consecutive days with temperatures reaching 25°C or higher. The current forecast indicates that this threshold will be met, with 29°C expected on both Thursday and Friday, and 28°C on Saturday. Overnight temperatures will also be above average, ranging from 14°C to 16°C early in the week, potentially reaching 18°C later on.
While parts of the UK are already experiencing heatwave conditions at the start of the week, Greater Manchester's hottest days are expected from Wednesday onward. The Met Office advises residents to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat, especially during the peak afternoon hours.
