After a brief respite, temperatures are set to soar again, with another heatwave forecast for Greater Manchester next week. Parts of the north west could see temperatures reach 30C, but before that, southern England is set to hit highs of 32C, with 45 UK areas surpassing 30C on Sunday.
UKHSA issues yellow alert
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a yellow "risk to life" alert affecting seven UK areas from Saturday, August 8, until Tuesday, August 11. The alert comes into effect at 9am on Saturday.
The seven affected areas are: East Midlands, East of England, London, South East, South West, West Midlands, and Yorkshire and The Humber. The North East and North West are currently not included in the warning.
Heatwave definition and forecast
A heatwave is defined as three consecutive days at a certain temperature. For north west England, the threshold is 25C. Next week, a heatwave is forecast in Greater Manchester for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with temperatures peaking at 28C, 30C, and 25C respectively.
Before then, Sunday, August 9, is set to see widespread hot conditions across England, reaching highs of 32C in parts of southern England.
