UK Braces for Scorching Heatwave as Health Alert Issued for Most of England
UK heat-health alert issued as temperatures soar

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and Met Office have issued a joint heat-health alert as large parts of England prepare for soaring temperatures this week. The yellow warning, indicating potential risks to vulnerable populations, covers all but one region of England from Monday through Thursday.

Who's at risk during the heatwave?

Health officials are particularly concerned about the impact on elderly people, those with pre-existing health conditions, and young children. The alert warns of increased risks of heat exhaustion and heatstroke as temperatures are expected to climb into the high 20s Celsius.

Which areas will be hottest?

While the entire country will experience warmer than average conditions, forecasters predict:

  • London and the Southeast could see temperatures reach 28°C
  • The Midlands may experience highs of 26°C
  • Northern regions slightly cooler but still above seasonal norms

How to stay safe in the heat

Experts recommend:

  1. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water
  2. Avoid the sun during peak hours (11am-3pm)
  3. Keep living spaces cool by closing curtains
  4. Check on vulnerable neighbors and relatives
  5. Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles

The Met Office has stressed that while this isn't an extreme heat event, the prolonged warm spell could have significant health impacts, especially for those unaccustomed to higher temperatures.
