Gaza is grappling with a deepening humanitarian crisis as soaring temperatures and severe shortages of fuel and clean water push residents to the brink. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has issued urgent warnings about the deteriorating conditions, particularly in Gaza City, where the combination of extreme heat and limited resources is making life unbearable for thousands.
Scorching Heat and Power Outages
Temperatures in Gaza have surged above 30°C, compounding the misery of civilians already struggling with frequent power cuts. With electricity available for only a few hours each day, many are unable to use fans or air conditioning, leaving them vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
Fuel Shortages Cripple Essential Services
The lack of fuel has disrupted critical services, including water pumps and hospitals. UNRWA reports that many families are forced to queue for hours to access clean water, while medical facilities operate on backup generators, risking complete shutdown if supplies run out.
UNRWA Calls for Immediate Aid
UNRWA has appealed for international assistance to address the crisis, emphasising the urgent need for fuel, water, and medical supplies. "The situation is dire," said a spokesperson. "Without immediate intervention, the suffering will only escalate."
As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues, civilians in Gaza face an increasingly desperate struggle for survival amid the dual threats of war and environmental hardship.
