Wales and other parts of the UK are forecast to experience a sharp temperature drop in early August, just days after an expected heatwave. According to the ECMWF weather model, some areas could see lows of 7°C on 6 August, with many regions across Wales and England facing morning temperatures of 9°C.
Temperatures forecast across the UK
While temperatures are set to reach 35°C or higher in parts of the UK this week, and up to 28°C in some Welsh areas, a dramatic shift is predicted within days. The coldest conditions are expected in Scotland, with numerous areas including Caithness, Sutherland, and Aberdeenshire among those likely to see single-figure temperatures.
In Wales, parts of Powys and Gwynedd are expected to drop to 9°C. In England, the coldest spots include Yorkshire, Durham, Northumberland, Lancashire, Westmorland, and Cumberland, all forecast to reach 9°C or lower.
Met Office outlook for early August
The Met Office forecast for August 1-10 indicates temperatures ranging from around average in the northwest to warm in the southeast, possibly becoming very warm in the southeast through the weekend. It states: 'It will probably become more changeable thereafter, with potential for an area of low pressure to move close to or across the UK early in August. This could bring spells of heavy rain and perhaps some strong winds for a time. It may become more settled again towards the end of the first week of August.'
