Britons are set to enjoy a mini heatwave next week, with temperatures expected to surpass those in the popular holiday destination Turkey. According to the ECMWF weather model, the UK could see highs of 21°C on Tuesday, April 7, while some regions of Turkey are predicted to reach only 19°C.
The warm weather is forecast to arrive just after the bank holiday weekend, which may bring a cold spell. Southern areas are expected to soak up most of the sun, with London likely to hit the highest temperature of 21°C. Surprisingly, some northern regions, such as Cheshire, could also see temperatures of up to 19°C, making them hotter than parts of Turkey.
In total, 12 UK regions are predicted to be hotter than the Mediterranean country. The peak temperatures are expected in the early evening, with London and surrounding areas climbing towards 20°C around 6pm.
The Met Office has indicated that temperatures during this period are likely to be above average. Their forecast notes a broad northwest to southeast split, with the northwest more unsettled due to low-pressure systems bringing strong winds and rain, while the southeast will see more settled, drier weather under the influence of high pressure. Overall, temperatures are expected to be near or slightly above normal, though there remains a chance of overnight frost.
