UK mini-heatwave: temperatures to reach 29C in East Anglia

The UK is set for another spell of hot weather, with temperatures forecast to reach 29C in parts of East Anglia on Wednesday. The south and east of England are expected to see the highest temperatures, while Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are likely to stay cooler, with mercury readings remaining in the teens.

Weekend and early next week outlook

Over the weekend, cloud is expected to increase across northern Scotland, with some light and patchy rain possible. Coastal showers are expected to ease, leaving most areas dry with sunny spells, according to the Met Office.

From the start of next week, temperatures are expected to remain around 22 or 23C across most of England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland are forecast to see 18-19C, according to WXCharts.

Midweek temperature peak

Temperatures are expected to begin climbing on Tuesday, reaching peaks of 26C in southern England. The remainder of the UK will stay marginally cooler.

On Wednesday, temperatures could culminate at 29C. The most intense heat is predicted for eastern England, with 29C forecast in Norfolk and Suffolk. The capital could hit 27C, mirroring the rest of the eastern seaboard.

Impact and forecast

While not predicted to match the extremes of earlier heatwaves, the hot weather is likely to deliver another blow to farmers whose harvests have already endured punishing hot and arid conditions.

According to the Met Office, conditions will be largely dry with sunny intervals from Sunday through Monday, but it will become progressively overcast from the south afterwards with downpours and a growing threat of thunderstorms heading into Tuesday.

The extended forecast suggests that from Wednesday temperatures will hover around average, although brief periods of warmth or heat could occur, particularly in the south. Showers or prolonged bouts of rain are also possible across several regions of the UK.
