Teenager 12th Water Death Amid UK Heatwave

A 16-year-old boy has become the 12th person to die in water-related incidents across the UK during the recent heatwave. Police recovered his body from Bracklinn Falls near Callander in Stirlingshire on Thursday evening after receiving a report of concern at around 6:45pm.

The hot weather has drawn many people to open water swimming, leading to a series of tragedies in South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Cornwall, Hampshire, Warwickshire, Cheshire, Pembrokeshire, Lincolnshire, and Lancashire.

Weather Shift on the Horizon

Forecasters predict heavy rain will hit parts of the UK on Saturday, ending a record-breaking hot spell. The Met Office's Grahame Madge stated that temperatures on Friday remain above average, potentially reaching the high 20s Celsius in the south and east. However, a cooling trend is expected as Atlantic air brings more changeable weather.

Weekend Outlook

Saturday will see heavier rain moving into western areas, including potential thunderstorms in parts of Northern Ireland, while other regions remain dry. Sunday is forecast to bring sunshine and showers, with continued warmth in the southeast.

Thames Water reported that the heatwave led to an extra billion litres of water used across London and the South East over the bank holiday weekend compared to the same period in 2025.
