According to the forecast, the heatwave will begin on August 11, with much of southern and eastern England seeing highs in the 30s. Surrey could hit 34C, while Wales may reach 27C. Scotland and Northern Ireland will be cooler, with temperatures mostly in the teens.
Wednesday, August 13, is predicted to be the hottest day, with the mercury exceeding 30C across nearly all of southern England and the Midlands. A scorching 35C is forecast for parts of Essex and eastern Hertfordshire. Wales could also hit 30C, while Scotland and Northern Ireland enjoy milder conditions in the mid-20s.
Temperatures are expected to remain high on August 14, with the south-east and east of England reaching 34C. By Friday, August 15, temperatures will drop slightly but remain hot, with highs of 31C in the south.
The Met Office's long-range forecast suggests an increased chance of high pressure becoming dominant, leading to drier, warmer, and more settled conditions for the second half of August. A heatwave is officially declared when temperatures meet or exceed the local threshold for three consecutive days.
