Scotland is set for another scorcher this week as temperatures are forecast to soar to 27C in some regions, according to weather maps from WX Charts. The warm spell follows days of heavy downpours, with the country expecting a mini heatwave beginning Wednesday, July 8.
Just weeks after Scotland recorded its hottest day of 2026 so far on June 25, with a high of 31.2C in Threave, Dumfries, the new heatwave raises concerns about the frequency of extreme weather events.
Temperature Breakdown by Day
The warmest day of the week across Scotland will be Friday, July 10, with almost all regions seeing highs over 20C. On Wednesday, July 8, temperatures will peak at 25C in North East Scotland by midday. Thursday evening, July 9, shows temperatures reaching 24C in the southernmost areas.
According to WX Charts, temperatures will dip to the late teens in the early morning of Friday before shooting up again. By 6pm, the Central Belt and Scottish Borders will hit 27C, while the Central Highlands and North East Scotland will see 24C. In the far north, Orkney is set for pleasant highs of 21C.
Weekend Outlook
The nice weather is expected to continue into the weekend, with highs of 24C across the Central Belt on Saturday, July 11, and 26C in the north east. Sunday, July 12, will remain similar, with most regions experiencing conditions in the early twenties. Western areas including Skye, Mull and Fort William are forecast to reach 24C.
The Met Office's forecast from Wednesday, July 8, to Friday, July 10, states: "Dry and sunny to end the week. Light winds, though breezier across hills and for most on Friday. Temperatures increasing, becoming very warm or hot."
From Friday onwards, the Met Office adds: "High pressure will likely amplify northwards to bring periods of drier and warmer weather to most of Scotland and Northern Ireland too. Winds will be light to moderate for most, but gusty around any thunderstorms. Temperatures by day will be widely very warm, hot or even very hot in parts of the south. There are signs for the heatwave to ease back to more normal summer temperatures through the next week commencing Monday, July 13."
