Scotland is set to experience a warm spell next week, with temperatures predicted to reach 25C on Wednesday, August 12, according to the Met Office. This comes after a weekend of unsettled weather, including thunderstorm warnings and heavy downpours.
Warmth on the way
The Met Office forecasts that temperatures across Scotland will rise into the twenties at the start of next week, peaking at 25C on Wednesday. Jedburgh and Edinburgh are expected to enjoy mid-twenties by late afternoon, while Stirling, Bathgate, Perth, and Glasgow will see highs of 24C.
Further north, Forres and Aberlour are also predicted to reach 24C, with Fort William, Ullapool, and Brechin slightly cooler at 22C. Weather maps indicate that many areas will enjoy sunshine during this warm spell, a significant change from the current gloomy forecast.
Weekend washout
Before the warmth arrives, Scots are warned of more wet weather this weekend. Following a drier day on Thursday, meteorologist Clare Nasir predicts showers will sweep through on Saturday, August 8. She said: "Low pressure will be with us into the weekend, bringing some rain. So some wet weather and some strong winds on Saturday."
Sunday will bring scattered showers, particularly in northern and western areas, with a brisk breeze. Temperatures over the weekend are expected to range from 15C to 20C.
The warm spell is expected to be short-lived, as the Met Office predicts temperatures will drop back to the high-teens by the following weekend. Scots are advised to keep both sunscreen and umbrellas handy.
