Rain is set to arrive in Merseyside on Monday night and into Tuesday, following a week of extreme heat across the UK. The Met Office has described the rainfall as "much needed" after a prolonged dry spell.
Record temperatures and forecast change
Temperatures peaked at 38.1C in London on Thursday (August 13), marking the fifth hottest day on record for the UK. However, the extreme heat is expected to drop significantly, with rain forecast to move in from the north-west.
According to BBC weather, wet weather will arrive on Monday (August 17) night and continue into Tuesday (August 18), with showers turning heavier later in the day.

The BBC forecast said: "Monday will start largely dry and cloudy but it should become sunnier in the afternoon. Spells of rain may move in from the north-west by the end of the night. Breezy on Tuesday with variable cloud and showers, these turning heavy later in the evening."
Looking ahead, the Met Office said: "Into the start of next week frontal systems will likely approach or move across the UK from the Atlantic. These will bring rain to many parts of the UK, although any heavy rain will probably be across high ground in the northwest. Temperatures will likely be near normal or slightly above."
