Met Office map shows exact time heavy rain hits Liverpool

Heavy rain is set to hit Liverpool at 12am tonight, according to Met Office weather maps, with a week of mixed rain, cloud and sunshine forecast for Merseyside.

Today welcomes the new month of September, which signals the start of autumn for many households. However, it isn't time for knitted jumpers and big coats just yet, as it has been a mild and bright morning across the UK. According to the Met Office, some areas could expect to see some heavy rain this evening.

Rain forecast for Tuesday night

In its outlook for today (Tuesday, September 1), the Met Office said: "Dry and bright across southern areas today, with cloudier skies further north and a few showers."

"More persistent rain will reach Cumbria by late afternoon. Temperatures around average but feeling pleasant in any sunshine. Maximum temperature 20 °C."

Weather maps show deep blue patches of rain sweeping across the North West tonight. Rainy conditions are expected to hit Liverpool at 12am.

Wet conditions continue into Wednesday

Heavy showers continue overnight and into Wednesday, with wet conditions forecast throughout the day. The Met Office said: "Staying largely dry this evening across the south, but outbreaks of rain continuing elsewhere. Rain then becoming increasingly heavy and more widespread towards dawn. Minimum temperature 13 °C."

Looking ahead to Wednesday (September 2), the forecast added: "A rather cloudy, breezy and wet day, with the rain heaviest and most persistent towards the north."

"Temperatures near average, but rather cool in the more prolonged spells of rain. Maximum temperature 22 °C."

Brighter spells later in the week

In its outlook for the end of the week, the forecaster added: "Drier and brighter on Thursday before further rain arrives overnight. Rain clearing early Friday to a mix of sunshine and showers. Largely fine on Saturday with some warm sunshine."

The unsettled weather comes after heavy rain and thunderstorms hit the region last week. The Met Office issued yellow weather alerts for Merseyside across multiple days, with warnings in place for flash floods and travel disruption.

No thunderstorms have been forecast this week, with mild weather and frequent showers dominating across the north of England.
