The Met Office has forecast heavy rain to batter parts of the UK on Tuesday as conditions deteriorate following a sunny weekend. A band of low pressure will move across the UK from the west, bringing downpours that will linger for most of the day. South Wales and the Southwest of England will bear the strongest brunt of this weather system.
Weather Warnings and Affected Areas
The Met Office website states: "Some showery outbreaks of rain will affect northern and western areas on Tuesday." It adds that showers will become more widespread on Tuesday evening, potentially causing disruption across parts of the Midlands and Northwest England. However, the unsettled spell will be short-lived as temperatures are set to rise slowly this week, reaching peaks of 28C or 27C by Friday, with the East of England seeing the warmest conditions.
Detailed Forecast for Tuesday
Rain will be heavy on Tuesday, with low cloud and coastal fog expected across the Southwest of England. Cloud cover will build through Monday evening into Tuesday, with patchy rain hitting Cornwall, north Devon, and the Welsh coastlines early on Tuesday. Clouds will gather later in the morning, and rain will become heavier as it moves northeast throughout the day.
Weather charts show widespread and heavy rain throughout the afternoon and into the evening. By roughly 8:30pm, central England will be soaked, extending from Greater London up to Cumbria. Showers will also linger over Scotland. The rainfall will ease into showers overnight, with pockets affecting the southwest coast of England into Wednesday morning.
Regions to Escape the Worst
Not everyone will be affected. The Met Office predicts "sunny spells for many" on Monday, and it will still feel pleasant in the sunshine, albeit slightly cooler along the east coast. The southeast is poised to avoid most of the wet conditions, with dry and brighter weather expected on Tuesday. The southeast of England is likely to enjoy the best of the warm sunshine and escape the gloomy outlook.
