Londoners told to get out jumpers as temperatures plunge

Londoners are being advised to look out their jumpers and coats as temperatures in the capital plummet this week.

The start of the week is expected to remain relatively warm - but the Met Office predicts that temperatures could drop by almost 10C within a few days.

Warm start to the week

According to the national forecaster, Monday and Tuesday should stay fine and dry, with variable amounts of cloud and sunny spells. Temperatures should be warmer than usual for October, with highs of around 23C.

However, by Wednesday things will begin to feel much more chilly. While it should remain mostly dry, there should be periods of heavy rain, with conditions also becoming more blustery as the week goes on.

Chilly end to the week

The temperature will also fall substantially, with highs of just 15C on both Wednesday and Thursday bringing a chilly end to the week.

Into the weekend, there should be more showery spells, with temperatures likely to be closer to average, and highs of around 18C.

Speaking on the Today programme on Monday morning, BBC Weather’s Simon King said: “You might need a jumper or a coat through this week, because temperatures are set to drop, especially for Wednesday and Thursday, below the average for the time of year.”
