Met Office Issues Thunderstorm Warning for London and Parts of England

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across parts of England, including London, the East of England, South East England, and South West England. The warning is in effect until 9pm this evening.

The forecaster warns of frequent lightning, gusty winds, torrential rain, and hail in some areas. While most places will see limited rainfall, a few locations could experience 20-25 mm in a short period, leading to possible flash flooding.

Potential impacts include damage to buildings from lightning or hail, difficult driving conditions due to spray and standing water, delays to train services, and short-term power cuts. An amber warning for extreme heat also remains in place.

The Met Office advises those outdoors to seek safe shelter, avoid trees or structures that may attract lightning, and move to lower ground if on elevated terrain. The public is urged to monitor warnings as conditions may change rapidly.
