Britons are set to enjoy a sudden blast of heat next week, with temperatures expected to reach 30°C in parts of the south-east, according to latest weather maps. After a period of wet and chilly conditions, high pressure moving up from the south will bring warmer air, with the hottest day forecast for Friday, June 19.
BBC weather forecaster Tomasz Schafernaker said: 'I've got some good news in the forecast for the week ahead after the recent cloudy, rainy, chilly weather, we are in for something a lot more cheerful.' He added that winds from the south would carry very warm air from France towards the UK.
Ventusky weather maps show temperatures peaking at around 30°C in Chelmsford and other parts of the south-east, while eight counties—Lincolnshire, Rutland, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, and London—are set for at least 28°C. However, the south-west of England, Wales, and Scotland will see cooler conditions, with temperatures in the mid-teens.
The Met Office's long-range forecast from June 19 to 26 indicates that high pressure will become more dominant next weekend, bringing drier and settled weather. It states: 'Temperatures are likely to be above normal for most parts, and across the southeast in particular it could be very warm or hot at times.'
