Russia has been secretly building a vast jet-powered drone launchpad just inside its border with Ukraine, preparing for an expected winter onslaught, even as Donald Trump ordered the turning of the noose on Ukraine’s access to the crucial Starlink satellite communications system. The facility may be capable of firing as many as 100 kamikaze craft into Ukraine every day as Vladimir Putin boosts production of the 300 mph killing machines.
Winter Attacks and Civilian Toll
Moscow’s plans are expected to include weaponising minus 20 degree conditions, attacking Ukrainian civilian infrastructure as it tries to freeze the population to death. The switchback by Trump will cost the lives of more Ukrainian civilians who are facing another appalling winter of attacks.
Trump has branded Ukraine’s continued attacks on Russian refineries a “disgrace”, even though this is the one thing that is turning the war in Ukraine’s favour. He has also claimed that “Zelensky is more difficult to deal with than Putin”, attempting to switch the narrative towards making Ukraine the aggressor.
Ukraine’s Military Focus
While Putin’s troops murder and maim civilians in Ukraine, including women and children, Ukraine has focused on trying to hit Moscow’s ability to pay for its war. Ukraine’s military action deep inside Russia is largely concentrated on its military and its economy, not its civilians.
President Zelensky has been hitting infrastructure in Russia, while Russia has targeted Ukrainian civilians. His dignity and restraint under the shadow of such treachery is admirable, but his country has an incredibly tough winter ahead of it.
Replacement Satellite Search
The EU is, sources suggest, desperately searching for a solution in trying to make ready a replacement satellite system that could replace Starlink by next year. UK defence secretary Wes Streeting says US Starlink has been switched back on, but the warning has already been delivered, a message that tells Zelensky to rein in the attacks or Starlink will be switched back off again.
