The Krazy Races soapbox derby, one of the UK's largest touring events, returns to Stockport on August 9 with a special RAF flypast and a classic car display, organisers have announced.
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight to Perform Flypast
For the first time, the event will feature a flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF), preserving iconic RAF aircraft and honouring Second World War veterans. This follows a one-off Lancaster Bomber display at the 2023 event. Specific aircraft and timings will be confirmed closer to the date.
Classic Car Display and Soapbox Races
The Italian Auto Moto Club will showcase classic cars, including retro Ferraris and Lamborghinis, at Stockport's Marketplace. Up to 40 soapbox teams will race down a 350-metre track, with previous entries including Ghostbusters and 1980s-themed vehicles.
Danny Scoffin, Head of Brand & Strategic Development for Krazy Races, said: “We’re always looking for ways to evolve Krazy Races, and this is a really exciting addition for Stockport. The Italian Auto Moto Club will bring something completely different to the day and adds another level of spectacle for visitors.”
Event Details and Registration
The free event, organised by Totally Stockport BID Company, is expected to draw tens of thousands. Applicants for the soapbox race have until July 12 to register their business, school or community group. A pre-meet will be held at Stockport County on July 16.
Shaun Freeman-Jones, Totally Stockport BID Manager, added: “We ask Krazy Races to bring something new to each event, and they’ve delivered once again. Seeing such an impressive collection of retro Ferraris and Lamborghinis across Stockport Market will be an incredible sight and a real draw for visitors.”
