Debris suspected from a rocket launch has been discovered on a remote beach in the Philippines, prompting a coastguard investigation. The wreckage was found near the Balading settlement on Bisucay Island, off the coast of Cuyo, and a response team was deployed at 6:46 a.m. local time on Wednesday to transport the parts to the Coast Guard Station in Eastern Palawan.
Possible Link to Chinese Rocket
The discovery comes weeks after the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) warned that debris from China's Long March 12 rocket was likely to fall into waters off Puerto Princesa in Palawan. The rocket was launched from Hainan Island on June 17. PhilSA stated at the time that an uncontrolled descent could not be ruled out, and there was a possibility debris could land on the ground or strike aircraft and buildings. Launch details were shared via a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) warning of an 'aerospace flight activity'.
Investigation and Safety Measures
It remains unclear whether the recovered wreckage is from the Long March 12 or another source. Coast Guard District Palawan confirmed that maritime authorities are examining the debris to determine its origin. The Philippine Coast Guard assured the public that appropriate safety measures are in place while the investigation continues, and further updates will be released as they become available.
