A Lufthansa flight from Germany to Canada was forced to make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport following a mid-air emergency.
Flight tracking data shows Lufthansa flight LH470 was heading to Toronto Pearson International Airport from Frankfurt and was cruising over Scotland when the crew triggered a squawk 7700 alert.
Emergency over Scotland
The Boeing 747-430, registered as D-ABVY, left Germany at 3pm local time. It passed over the Netherlands, reached a cruising altitude of 32,000 feet and proceeded as planned for the first 90 minutes of the journey, according to the Mirror.
As it travelled over Scotland, the jet initiated a sudden left turn and issued the international transponder code for a general emergency onboard, according to Air Live.
Safe landing in Manchester
Air Traffic Control guided the jet towards Manchester Airport for an urgent arrival. It landed safely on Runway 23R at 3.37pm local time.
The flight was then rescheduled to depart Manchester Airport at 5.15pm local time to Toronto.
Lufthansa has been contacted for comment by the Mirror.
