A British Airways flight from London Gatwick to Portugal declared a mid-air emergency after unconfirmed reports of a cracked window, forcing the aircraft to turn back.
Flight BA2660, operated by BA EuroFlyer, was travelling from Gatwick to Faro in the Algarve when the incident occurred on October 13.
Emergency declared mid-flight
AirNav Radar, which tracks aircraft, raised the alarm, saying the plane had declared an emergency and was about to divert. Tracking websites show the Airbus A321-231 made a U-turn shortly after passing Bretagne.
The flight took off from Gatwick at about 9am and headed towards Portugal before pilots issued a general emergency around an hour into the journey.
Structural damage reported
AirLive claimed the pilots spotted 'structural damage to a window panel on the right side of the aircraft'. AirNav Radar said on X: 'A passenger window is cracked. Flight deck going through checks before deciding were to divert.'
The flight is now travelling back to Gatwick, according to tracking website Flightradar24. Metro has contacted British Airways for a comment.
The Airbus plane involved is 22 years old and has 218 seats, according to aircraft registration details.
