Formula 1 has confirmed its return to Africa for the first time in more than three decades. The first Grand Prix on the continent since the 1993 South African Grand Prix will take place "in the early 2030s", without an official date set.
Rwanda chosen over South Africa
Kyalami will not be the host, nor will any race track in South Africa. Instead, F1 chiefs have struck a deal with Rwanda.
The announcement follows many years of negotiations with many interested parties.
Long campaign for African return
Lewis Hamilton has been advocating for F1's return to Africa for many years. The confirmation ends a wait of more than three decades for the sport to return to the continent.
