An EasyJet flight travelling from Cyprus to Scotland was forced to make an emergency landing in Amsterdam on Tuesday evening after a passenger suffered a life-threatening medical emergency mid-air.
Emergency diversion to Amsterdam
Flight US3170, an Airbus A320, was en route from Larnaca to Glasgow when it diverted urgently to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Approximately four hours into the journey, a passenger experienced a serious medical emergency.
Crew members performed CPR on the individual while the aircraft was cruising at 38,000 feet. The captain declared an emergency and informed Air Traffic Control that an urgent landing was necessary.
Priority landing and medical response
The captain requested priority support from air traffic controllers while CPR was underway in the cabin. The aircraft was designated as top priority, and controllers established a direct route to Amsterdam Schiphol.
The flight crew executed a swift descent and touched down safely on Runway 06, just 22 minutes after the distress signal. Following landing, the aircraft was directed to Gate D60, where paramedics boarded to continue CPR and provide urgent medical treatment.
The service was operated by an Airbus A320 with registration G-EZWL, which had departed Larnaca Airport on October 6, bound for Glasgow. EasyJet has been approached for comment.
