An EasyJet flight travelling from Cyprus to Scotland declared an emergency after a serious medical incident onboard. Flight US3170 was forced to divert to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Tuesday evening during its journey from Larnaca to Glasgow.
Passenger suffers life-threatening incident
Reports indicate that approximately four hours into the flight, a passenger suffered a "life-threatening" medical incident. CPR was administered to the passenger aboard the Airbus A320 at an altitude of 38,000 feet.
The captain declared an emergency and notified Air Traffic Control that an emergency landing was necessary.
Priority landing at Schiphol
According to Airlive.net, the captain requested priority assistance from air traffic controllers while CPR was being carried out in the cabin. The flight was given top priority status, and air traffic controllers cleared a direct route to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
The flight crew performed a rapid descent before touching down safely on Runway 06, just 22 minutes after the distress call was broadcast.
Medical teams board aircraft
The aircraft was immediately taxied to Gate D60 upon landing, where local medical teams swiftly boarded the plane to take over CPR and administer emergency medical care.
The service was operated by an Airbus A320, registered as G-EZWL, which had departed Larnaca Airport on October 6, bound for Glasgow. EasyJet has been approached for comment.
