British cyclist Finlay Tarling dies after Portugal accident

British cyclist Finlay Tarling has died after a serious accident during the 8th stage of the Volta a Portugal, the race organizers confirmed. Tarling was riding for the NSN Development Team.

Race Organizers Announce Tragic News

The organization of the 87th Volta a Portugal em Bicicleta Jogos Santa Casa released a statement expressing deep regret over the incident. They said: "The organization of the 87th Volta a Portugal em Bicicleta Jogos Santa Casa deeply regrets to announce the passing of British cyclist Finlay Tarling, from the NSN Development Team, following a serious accident that occurred during the 8th stage of the race."

The statement continued: "At this moment of profound dismay, the organization of the Volta a Portugal and the Portuguese Cycling Federation express their most heartfelt condolences to the family of Finlay Tarling, to his teammates, to the NSN Development Team, and to all his friends and loved ones."

Race Neutralized and Podium Ceremony Cancelled

In light of the tragedy, the race will be neutralized until reaching Fafe. As a sign of respect and mourning, the podium ceremony scheduled for that day will not take place. The organization said it will provide all additional information as soon as conditions allow.

The statement was signed by the Portuguese Cycling Federation and the Organization of the Tour of Portugal.
