Manchester United are set to allow James Overy and Louis Jackson to leave the club as the summer transfer window enters its final days. The club has seen a number of fresh faces arrive under Michael Carrick's first team, including Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow, and most recently Carlos Baleba from Brighton.
Overy set for Sydney FC return
Overy, who is 18, is set to return to Australia to play for Sydney FC. Born in Perth, the right-back had a stint with Glory between 2023 and 2024 before joining Newton Abbot Spurs. He represented his nation during last season's U20 World Cup and received his first senior call-up in November. Having played for United's U21s in 2025/26, he was absent as the team started their Premier League 2 season with a 5-0 win over Ipswich on Monday.
Jackson in talks with St Mirren
Jackson, meanwhile, is in talks with St Mirren and is looking at the prospect of playing Scottish Premiership football this season. The 20-year-old defender is set to have a medical with the club on Thursday. A Scottish youth international, Jackson is yet to appear for United's first team, having spent last season on loan at Tranmere Rovers and Solihull Moors. As per the BBC, both deals will include buyback clauses which the Red Devils will be able to utilise.
Left-back search continues
United are thought to be considering a move for Alejandro Balde as they look to address issues at left-back. At 31, Luke Shaw is into the final year of his contract at Old Trafford. With little depth behind the Englishman, the Red Devils are scouring the market to plan for the future. While a concrete interest in Lewis Hall came to light, Newcastle United are refusing to sell the 21-year-old this summer.
United are reportedly considering a move for Balde, who has fallen out of favour under Hansi Flick at Barcelona. The 22-year-old has reportedly told agent Jorge Mendes to find him a new club ahead of the window closing, with Manchester United thought to be leading the race to secure the Spaniard. There have also been claims of a late offer for Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga, but with the recent £70million arrival of Baleba, it is unlikely the club will look for further additions to their engine room.
