Liverpool are expected to complete a deal for Hungarian under-19 international Patrik Farkas, who was seen training with the club's under-21 team this week, according to Anfield Watch. The promising midfielder is expected to sign for Liverpool, with negotiations believed to be in an advanced stage and only minor details left to finalise.
Busy end to the window
The Reds have had a quieter transfer window than expected, particularly after Mohamed Salah's departure in the summer. A deal for Bradley Barcola is said to have been struck this week, with Barcola set to join Víctor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet. However, with just days left before the window closes, several questions remain over Liverpool's squad after a difficult last season.
Alongside Barcola, Liverpool are expected to add another forward. Yankuba Minteh has been mentioned as a potential option, while the club were also said to have shown interest in Ismailia this week. Following Curtis Jones' departure, a midfield addition is also suggested, with Lamine Camara and Manu Kone both mentioned as targets. Kone could be available for as little as £50million from Roma.
Farkas spotted in training
While those moves develop behind the scenes, Farkas's presence in training suggests Liverpool's next signing may already be decided. The youngster is unlikely to make an immediate impact this season, though, with the 2024/25 champions needing a last-minute penalty to rescue a point against Newcastle on the opening day, hinting at another testing campaign.
Manager Iraola, speaking before the Nottingham Forest match, said: "As you know, we are trying to sign in that position and also, as you know, we cannot talk about players that right now are not ours. But it's evident that we are trying to improve or try to fill that position because we don't have the numbers. I hope we can have good news soon but we are still not there."
He added: "I don't know what's going to happen. We have to be patient – even myself – for another four or five days and then we will know. I will be comfortable the first of September, or the second in this case, when they tell me, 'OK, this is who we are, this is the options we have.' And then we can really start thinking, 'OK, then we might start thinking in the players in these positions.' But right now we don't know."
