Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth £106m, with the fee having been reduced from PSG's initial asking price. The France winger has agreed to join the Reds, and the overall transfer fee reportedly comprises a £106m guaranteed sum plus a further £17m in add-ons.
PSG reduce Barcola asking price
The total package represents a full £22m less than PSG were initially demanding for their forward earlier this summer. Les Parisiens commenced negotiations with an opening price of £145m but were negotiated down, largely due to their own dealings.
Luis Enrique has bolstered his creative options this summer with the arrivals of Mika Godts and Maghnes Akliouche. Factor in that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue were already positioned above him in the hierarchy and it becomes clearer why PSG have opted to capitalise on his value.
Gakpo departure to fund deal
After the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, the Reds pushed for an answer on Cody Gakpo's future, with the Dutchman deciding that he would join Manchester City over Tottenham. They could pay in the region of £85m, adding significant funds for the acquisition of Barcola.
It remains a staggering figure for Liverpool to fork out when all is considered. Many would claim Barcola has yet to achieve enough in his career to warrant such an enormous outlay. Nevertheless, it won't be long before Reds supporters witness their shiny new acquisition attempting to prove his worth at Anfield.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo hijack
Liverpool could be poised to inflict further transfer window anguish on Newcastle after already snatching Victor Munoz from under their noses. The Reds are now being tipped to secure a deal for Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo, who is valued at approximately £60m.
TEAMtalk claim that the Reds have already opened discussions with Lille concerning a late offer for their talent. This follows The Telegraph reporting Newcastle were stepping up their own pursuit to sign the youngster.
Fernandez-Pardo has predominantly featured as a striker for Lille and would likely serve as cover for Alexander Isak. Nevertheless, he is equally adept at operating out wide on either flank. The 21-year-old shares a comparable profile to Gakpo and could be considered a potential successor should the Dutchman depart.
