Arsenal fans can relax knowing there is only a week left until the return of club football. Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are striving for even more success this season, having won the Premier League for the first time in 22 years last term.
They began the 2026/27 campaign in convincing fashion, beating Manchester City to lift the Community Shield before winning a further six games on the bounce across all competitions. However, their progress hit a sudden stumbling block as they were defeated 3-0 by Brighton at the Amex.
Arsenal return to action
The north Londoners have been unable to respond to that loss, given the international break began immediately afterwards. After several weeks away, Arsenal return to Premier League action on October 10, when they will continue their title challenge with a home game against Leeds United.
Several question marks remain over Arteta’s squad availability for that fixture, given the array of injuries Gunners stars have had to deal with while away with their respective nations. But first, Mirror Football takes a look at two of the latest news stories involving the English champions.
Haaland plan emerges
Erling Haaland would reportedly prefer to join Paris Saint-Germain over Arsenal if Manchester City are relegated from the Premier League. City have been found guilty of breaching 114 of the league’s financial rules between 2009 and 2018 and are currently in turmoil, though the club have appealed the decision.
One of the most severe punishments they could potentially receive is relegation from the top flight, in which case their top players, including Haaland, are unlikely to remain at the Etihad. As such, the Norwegian striker has been linked with Premier League rivals Arsenal since the news broke, given the Gunners are still targeting a world class forward.
But, according to Le Parisien, reigning European champions PSG are favourites to land the 26-year-old. It’s claimed the back-to-back Champions League winners, who beat Arsenal in this year’s final, view Haaland as the natural successor to Ousmane Dembele, who turns 30 next year and could be heading to Saudi Arabia.
Antonio Nusa claim made
Arsenal are preparing a January offer for RB Leipzig winger Antonio Nusa, according to reports in Germany. The 21-year-old has impressed since joining the Bundesliga side from Club Brugge in August 2024 and has started the new campaign in impressive fashion.
Nusa, who plays alongside Martin Odegaard and Haaland for Norway, is claimed by online German source Fussball News to be being pursued by Arsenal and Tottenham, who are supposedly leading the race for the winger. A host of other clubs like Roma, Aston Villa, Newcastle, AC Milan and Inter Milan are also said to be interested in his signature.
The report predicts Arsenal’s interest in Nusa to become "particularly concrete" as Arteta’s side are said to be working on an initial offer of £34m. That is well below Leipzig’s valuation of the player, which is understood to be in the region of £50-55million.
