Fulham have been forced to pay around £19million for Hugo Larsson after his loan move from Eintracht Frankfurt was triggered by a single appearance. The Sweden international made his debut off the bench against Crystal Palace, replacing Oscar Bobb in the 79th minute, which activated the permanent transfer clause.
Deadline Day Deal Turns Permanent
The Cottagers signed Larsson on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt on deadline day, with the move set to be made permanent under certain conditions. According to Kicker, that condition was just a single appearance. The purchase option had initially been reported as an obligation for the end of the season, but the German outlet says the deal has been triggered just days following his arrival.
Larsson, 22, was unable to help Fulham see out their match against Palace as former Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell scored the winning goal after 77 minutes, after the Eagles had twice been forced to come from behind. Fulham are pointless following the opening three fixtures of the Premier League season.
Manager Calls for Patience
Fulham boss Alvaro Arbeloa has pleaded for patience for Larsson and his two fellow deadline day signings Manuel Ángel and David Affengruber. Speaking ahead of Palace, Arbeloa said: “I think it's a little bit early for these three players.
“David has been playing with Elche in the first games in La Liga, but Hugo, for example, he played his last game, I think, on the 12th of August. He wasn't involved in any other games. For Manuel Ángel, the same. He didn't play a game during the pre-season.
“So, I think these three players need a little bit of time. They just arrived, I think they will be in the squad tomorrow, but be patient with these three players. They need to understand what we want from them.”

Sweden international Larsson was reportedly reluctant to leave Frankfurt, who required sales over the summer following significant financial outlays. During three years at the club, Larsson made 119 appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists.
Despite the claim, Larsson suggested he was happy to have arrived at Craven Cottage. Speaking to FFCtv, Larsson said: “Obviously, it’s a very proud moment for me and my family – I’m honoured to be here.
“To come here, to the oldest club in London, with all the history that it has, is such an honour for me.”
Tony Khan added: “I’m thrilled to welcome Hugo Larsson to Fulham! He is a very talented player, and we have been tracking him for several years.
“Hugo has impressed at Eintracht Frankfurt and for his national team, and I believe that he can strengthen our squad! Come on Fulham!”
