Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Cardiff City wonderkid Axel Donczew. The Gunners were linked with the youngster earlier this summer as part of their strategy to move for some of the brightest young talents across the UK and further afield.
Donczew's switch to North London has now been confirmed. A statement from Cardiff on Sunday read: “Cardiff City FC can confirm that an agreement has been reached for the transfer of Axel Donczew to Arsenal. Axel became our youngest player aged 15 years and 234 days old in October 2025, a record now held by Noah Anyadike.
“The Club had offered terms for Donczew to continue his development with the Bluebirds and made efforts to retain the player, but he opted to pursue a move away from the Welsh capital. We wish Axel the best of luck for the future.”
Academy addition and further incomings
Donczew, 16, will now play a part in the Gunners' academy with potential for first-team exposure in the future. His switch follows a number of incomings in North London over the past few days.
Igor Tyjon has been recruited from Cardiff's Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers. After his move was made official, he said: "It feels amazing. I've waited a long time for this and I can't wait to get started.
“It's a dream come true for [my family] as well, it's always a nice feeling when you make your family happy, so I'm buzzing for them as well. Who doesn't want to join the champions? I can't wait to be part of the team. The pathway, the staff, the players, everything about it, it's just top. I'm excited to meet the group, meet the players, hit the ground running and have a good season."
Further youth and first-team deals
Arsenal have also signed James Scanlon from Premier League rivals Manchester United, while they are also interested in Red Devils youngster Habeeb Ogunneye.
Arsenal have also completed a deal for Vincent Joseph, who left Liverpool at the end of last season, albeit a tribunal will now decide how much the North London side will have to pay for the 16-year-old.
It's also been a very busy summer from a first-team perspective. Arsenal have spent heavily in an effort to defend their Premier League crown.
Piero Hincapie returned on a permanent deal following an initial loan move from Bayer Leverkusen, while Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa and Christos Tzolis have also been recruited for big money. Arsenal remain linked with a move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.
