Arsenal have completed the signing of Manchester United youngster James Scanlon, with the 19-year-old forward explaining his departure from Old Trafford.
Scanlon completes move to north London
Scanlon, 19, was linked with a move to north London earlier this summer and has now seen his switch rubber-stamped. The forward could be joined by a former teammate, with previous reports suggesting Arsenal were also interested in a move for United's Habeeb Ogunneye, who was with Newport County last season.
Speaking to Arsenal's official website, Scanlon said: "It's a pleasure to be here, I can't wait to get started. I've been waiting to get this over the line, so I'm buzzing to be here."
He added: "My family are massive to me, so to have them here for this special day is only going to make it better. You can see that everyone here is hungrier for more, hungrier to get better and I think that's something I believe I can add to and want to be a part of as well."
Academy progress and loan spell
Scanlon departs Old Trafford having progressed through the Red Devils academy. He became a regular for the under-21 side before joining Swindon Town on loan, scoring once in six appearances.
He said: "I like to score goals, assist, so hopefully I can excite players who watch me. I'm looking forward to playing, representing the badge, improving and hopefully showing people what I can do."
Arsenal's youth recruitment drive
Arsenal's moves see them continuing their push to sign promising young players. 16-year-old England youth international striker Vincent Joseph joined the club after leaving Liverpool, with a tribunal now set to decide the fee the Gunners will have to pay.
Mylo Bernard has joined from Crystal Palace, while Elijah Upson departed Tottenham to move across north London. Axel Donczew is also expected to be signed from Cardiff City following an impressive breakout year in Wales.
Igor Tyjon has also been recruited from Blackburn Rovers. He said: "It feels amazing. I've waited a long time for this and I can't wait to get started. It's a dream come true for [my family] as well, it's always a nice feeling when you make your family happy, so I'm buzzing for them as well."
He added: "Who doesn't want to join the champions? I can't wait to be part of the team. The pathway, the staff, the players, everything about it, it's just top. I'm excited to meet the group, meet the players, hit the ground running and have a good season."
