A PhD student from Glasgow was left baffled after friends mistook her knee for a newborn baby's head in a photograph she posted online. Rebecca Mcgonigle, 25, shared a picture of herself sitting in her room on April 14, but within minutes, a friend messaged to say it looked like she was holding a baby.
The optical illusion occurred when Rebecca pulled her knees towards her chest, with one kneecap exposed and the other covered by her white skirt. This created the appearance of a baby's head and a blanket-wrapped body. Friends flooded her with congratulations, prompting Rebecca to add a comment clarifying: 'I AM NOT WITH CHILD, THAT'S A KNEE'.
Rebecca, a chemistry PhD student, said she found the reaction hilarious and decided to keep the post online. Her boyfriend, Neil Pitman, 31, simply responded with 'what the f**k?' when shown the image. Rebecca's TikTok about the incident has since been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.
She told reporters: 'The lighting was good so I thought I'd take a photo to post on social media and I just didn't realise. People were seriously asking if I'd had a baby and that was strange to reply to. I wasn't embarrassed by it because it was funny.'
