A main road in Ancoats has been closed due to structural concerns over a derelict church. A stretch of Every Street, which runs from Great Ancoats Street on the outskirts of the city centre towards the Etihad Stadium, has been shut off for public safety.
Structural failure reported at former Church of All Souls
The closure comes as a 'structural failure' at the former Church of All Souls, which has been reported to council officials, is examined. Built in 1840, the Grade II listed church is said to have closed in the 1980s.
It was reportedly then used as a joinery workshop but is now unused. The Manchester Evening News understands Manchester City Council is liaising with the building's owner and asking that they undertake a structural survey, in order to determine what works are necessary to make it safe.
