Amazon shoppers are snapping up the Fire TV Stick HD for £4.57 ahead of the retail giant's Prime Big Deal Days sale, which begins tomorrow (October 6). The streaming device has been reduced from £59.99 to £19.99, but the price can be cut further by shopping through TopCashback.
New TopCashback members who create a free account will earn a £15 bonus when spending £15 or more, plus cashback on Amazon devices. With these two payments, the Fire TV Stick HD effectively costs £4.57 after cashback, saving £55.42 from the original price. The offer is only available to new TopCashback members, while existing members will pay £19.57 after cashback.
Fire TV Stick 4K Plus also reduced
The same method can be used to reduce the more powerful Fire TV Stick 4K Plus from the £34.99 sale price to £19.26. However, most shoppers have opted for the HD model, which is currently the second-best-selling Amazon device, behind only the Ring Battery Video Doorbell and Ring Indoor Camera bundle (£39.99, was £59.98).
The compact streaming stick plugs directly into a TV's HDMI port to unlock movies and series on streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV. It can transform a traditional TV into a smart TV without the need for a satellite dish or aerial connection.
Features and free content
As well as paid streaming apps, there is plenty of free content available to stream on BBC iPlayer, ITVX and YouTube. Amazon says the Fire TV Stick HD is the 'fastest ever' with an updated interface allowing users to find content quicker, then stream up to 1080p Full HD with Dolby-encoded audio.
Gamers can access a library of video games across Amazon Luna and Xbox Game Pass, with other key features including WiFi 6 support, 8GB of storage and an Alexa voice remote.
How to get the deal
To get the Fire TV Stick HD for £4.57, shoppers need to sign up to TopCashback, search for Amazon Devices and click 'Get Cashback Now', then shop and checkout as usual. Cashback will track and appear in the TopCashback account within seven working days of purchase, and will become payable and available to withdraw and spend after Amazon has paid TopCashback the commission.
Amazon has rivals in the streaming stick market, including the Roku HD Streaming Stick, which delivers the same content on major streaming apps but for a higher £29.99 price tag. TV content and streaming is also built into Sky Glass TVs, which need no additional hardware to work.
Almost 4,500 Amazon shoppers have rated the Fire TV Stick HD, awarding it an average score of 4.1 stars. One reviewer said: "Great value and really easy to use. It was a good price, easy to set up and getting it connected to the TV didn't take long at all. The remote is responsive [and] the Netflix, Disney+ and YouTube buttons are especially handy. Everything has worked well so far and streaming is smooth."
Another said: "I've used Fire TV Sticks for years and this HD version does exactly what I need it to. Setup is quick and straightforward, the interface is easy to navigate and all the main streaming apps I use are available in one place. Performance is responsive for everyday streaming and I've had no problems with buffering or reliability."
Others criticised the length of the Fire TV Stick cable, as this three-star review says: "The power cable is very short with no plug so you either have to buy a longer cable and plug or buy a HDMI extension." While this happy customer said: "Such a great, clever device. It's turned my old TVs into smart TVs. Instantly connects to my Alexa profile, connects to the TV via the HDMI port and is then able to control the volume using the TV's pre-existing interface and has everything we need – including saving us money buying a new up-to-date TV."
