Dyfed-Powys Police has confirmed it was the target of a cyber incident that caused disruption to some of its non-emergency systems, with an investigation ongoing into whether staff data may have been compromised.
Incident identified and investigation underway
The force said the incident was identified on Monday, September 14, and that an investigation is still ongoing. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has been notified of the incident.
Cyber-security specialists have been supporting the investigation, while precautionary measures have been put in place as specialist teams work to restore services safely.
Services remain operational
Despite the disruption, the force says it remains fully operational and that its response to emergency incidents has not been affected. Telephone services, including 999 and 101, have also continued to operate since the attack.
The force said its online and email contact services were unavailable for a period following the incident, but have now been restored.
Staff data under review
No evidence has been found to suggest that members of the public's personal data has been accessed or compromised as a result of the incident.
However, officers are continuing to investigate whether any information relating to the organisation's staff may have been accessed or compromised. The force is taking all appropriate steps to protect that information, and will provide appropriate advice to colleagues if required.
An investigation into the attack is continuing and is being managed by Tarian through their regional cyber-crime unit, with force systems being monitored closely.
A spokesperson from Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We understand the potential concern this may cause and want to reassure the public that we have and will continue to take all necessary steps to protect our information and maintain the security of our systems."
