Activision has confirmed that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will hold two beta weekends ahead of its October 23 launch. The first beta runs from Friday, August 21 to Tuesday, August 25 and is exclusive to players who pre-order the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC. The second beta, an open beta open to all, runs from Friday, August 28 to Tuesday, September 1.
How to Join the Modern Warfare 4 Beta
Pre-ordering either the standard edition or the Vault Edition grants early access to the first beta weekend, as well as early access to the campaign starting October 16. However, Activision has specified that only pre-orders for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC include the early access beta. The Vault Edition also includes eight exclusive operators, weapons, and blueprints from the Signature Weapon Collection.
Switch 2 Beta Access Details
Nintendo Switch 2 owners will only be able to participate in the open beta, not the early access beta. Activision explained that this is because pre-orders for the Switch 2 version do not begin until August 26, the day after the early access beta ends. The open beta does not require a pre-order, allowing Switch 2 players to test the game before committing to a purchase. Activision did not provide a reason for the delayed pre-orders, but it may be due to further development work or coordination with Nintendo. Developer Infinity Ward is not leading the Switch 2 version; that task falls to Activision subsidiary Digital Legends, which previously worked on Call Of Duty: Warzone Mobile and Black Ops titles.
What's Included in the Beta
According to the Call Of Duty website, the beta will feature multiple multiplayer maps and modes, a wide selection of brand-new operators, and up to 19 weapons to unlock. Both new and returning modes are promised, including Search & Destroy, a training mobility course, and Kill Block—an original mode where the battlefield layout changes each match.
Call Of Duty Movie Update
During a recent Call Of Duty panel at Fanatics Fest in New York City, director and co-writer Peter Berg confirmed that the official Call Of Duty movie, scheduled for release on June 30, 2028, will be set in the Modern Warfare continuity. As reported by Variety, it remains unclear whether the film will adapt a specific game or feature an original story.
