GTA 6 PC Release Leaks: February 2027, Sooner Than Thought

PC gamers might be able to play Grand Theft Auto 6 much earlier than anticipated, if recent leaks are accurate. According to unverified reports, the PC version could arrive in February 2027, a mere three months after the console launch.

Console Launch Set for November 2026

Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. However, the studio has remained silent on whether a PC version is in development or when it might arrive. This silence has left many PC gamers uncertain, especially given Rockstar's history of delayed PC ports.

Leak Suggests Early 2027 Release

A user on X, known as DetectiveSeeds, claims to have spoken with three former Rockstar employees who indicated that the PC version is targeting a February 2027 release. The post states: "According to 3 former Rockstar employees (that I contacted through Linkedin) Grand Theft Auto 6 is aiming to release the PC version in February 2027. All stated this timeline could shift, but Take-Two and Rockstar wanted to get the game out before the end of fiscal year. I reached out to over 90 people, 3 answered me."

These claims have not been independently verified, so they should be treated as speculation. However, they offer hope that PC players may not have to endure the lengthy waits seen with previous Rockstar titles.

Rockstar's History of PC Ports

Historically, Rockstar has taken considerable time to bring its games to PC. GTA 5 launched on consoles in September 2013, but the PC version did not arrive until April 2015, a gap of nearly two years. Red Dead Redemption 2 had a shorter delay, releasing on consoles in October 2018 and on PC a year later in November 2019. The original Red Dead Redemption took 14 years to appear on PC, finally arriving in 2024.

Why Console First?

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explained the company's strategy in May 2026, stating: "Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you're judged by serving the core. Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn't there, if they're not served first and best, you kind of don't hit your other consumers."

Some critics suggest that the staggered release is a deliberate tactic to encourage double-dipping, enticing gamers to purchase the title on both console and PC. This approach could boost overall sales, as many players may be unwilling to wait for the PC version.

What This Means for PC Gamers

If the leak proves accurate, a February 2027 release would be significantly faster than previous Rockstar PC ports. For context, GTA 6 is slated for console release on November 19, 2026, meaning a February 2027 PC launch would represent a gap of just three months. This would mark a major shift in Rockstar's release strategy.

Until an official announcement is made, PC gamers should remain cautiously optimistic. The leak provides a glimmer of hope, but Rockstar has not confirmed any PC plans. As always, official details will emerge closer to the console launch.
