Google's New Home Speaker Takes on Amazon Alexa+ with Gemini AI
Google Home Speaker Rivals Alexa+ with Gemini AI

Google has announced a new smart speaker designed to rival Amazon's Echo Studio and the upgraded Alexa+ assistant. The Google Home Speaker promises room-filling audio and advanced artificial intelligence features powered by Gemini, Google's latest AI model.

Gemini-Powered Conversations

Users can brainstorm ideas, hold natural conversations, and ask follow-up questions without repeating themselves. Gemini can handle interruptions, changes of mind, and mid-conversation corrections while keeping track of the context. A glowing light at the base indicates when the assistant is actively listening.

Smart Home Hub

Beyond answering queries, the speaker acts as a smart home hub, enabling voice control over lights, heating, and connected devices.

Audio and Entertainment

The device delivers 360-degree audio with deeper, richer bass and can pair with other Google Home Speakers for a multi-room setup. It also connects directly to Google's TV Streamer for enhanced cinematic sound during movie nights.

Design and Availability

The speaker comes in Porcelain and Hazel colors, wrapped in a fabric created using a 3D knitting process that reduces material waste. It will cost $99.99 in the US, with UK pricing to be confirmed.

Subscription Required

Many advanced Gemini features require a Google Home Premium subscription, priced at £8 per month after a six-month free trial included with the speaker.
