Google has officially confirmed the release of its new Fitbit Edge, which the US tech firm describes as its "smartest fitness tracker ever". The wearable device is now available for pre-order, following weeks of speculation about its launch.
Display and Fitness Upgrades
The Fitbit Edge comes with a bright OLED display that offers a larger viewing area than previous Fitbit devices, making it easier to see the time, daily stats, and step count. The vibrant screen has also been enhanced to remain readable even in direct sunlight.
Fitness features have been upgraded with over 50 exercise modes and more precise GPS for accurate tracking during runs. According to Google, "Built-in precision GPS delivers up to 40% improved tracking accuracy over previous generations, even without your phone."
Health Monitoring and Recovery Scoring
The device includes intelligent, automatic activity tracking that recognises up to 100 workouts, so it can start tracking exercise even if the user forgets to begin it manually. Health monitoring now covers heart rate, blood pressure trends, and insulin resistance trends.
A dedicated skin temperature sensor tracks nightly fluctuations, complementing sleep stage analysis and HRV metrics to deliver comprehensive recovery scoring each morning. This indicates how ready the wearer is for the day ahead, whether they need rest or can proceed with gym activities.
