Black Ops PS5 Ports 50% Cheaper Than Xbox, Fans Furious

Treyarch has released PlayStation ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2, but the pricing has sparked controversy. While PS Plus members can get a 50% discount on each game until August 6, bringing the price down to £17.49, Xbox users face full price with no similar deal. This disparity has left fans fuming, especially given that Microsoft owns Activision.

Port Details and Pricing

The ports are available on PlayStation 4 and 5, including single-player, multiplayer, and Zombies modes, but lack DLC and graphical updates. Each game costs £34.99 separately on the PlayStation Store, with season passes for DLC at £25.99 each. For both games and all DLC, the total reaches £121.96. PS Plus subscribers can reduce each game to £17.49 and each season pass to £8.57 (67% off) until August 6.

On Xbox, Black Ops 1 and 2 are available via backward compatibility on Xbox Series X/S at the same base prices, but no discounts have been offered. This means PlayStation users can buy the games for significantly less, despite Microsoft's ownership of Activision.

Fan Reaction

Fans have expressed frustration on social media. One X user wrote, 'Doing this for games that are almost 20 years old is crazy but not surprising given the fandom. I’m honestly impressed!' Another commented, '$40 each for 15 year old ports is diabolical. Yeah I know it's Black Ops but c'mon son.' A third user stated, 'The PS5 port for Call of Duty Black Ops 2 is a RIP OFF! Not only is the base price $40 off sale, IT DOESN'T EVEN INCLUDE THE DLC!?'

No Switch Version Planned

According to Call of Duty site CharlieIntel, a Nintendo Switch version is not planned, though this could change. However, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside other platforms on October 23, 2026.
