AI Website Matches Mood Boards to Furniture from M&S, Dunelm

Shop Home Styles, an AI-powered website, allows homeware enthusiasts to upload images from Pinterest, Instagram, or mood boards to instantly find matching furniture, potentially saving hours of scrolling. The platform, backed by Fuel Ventures, analyzes uploaded images by shape, material, color, and texture to identify the closest matches from over 100 furniture and homeware brands across the UK and US.

How the AI Tool Works

Users can upload any image—from Pinterest saves and Instagram posts to camera roll photos and mood boards—to locate and purchase furniture pieces directly. The AI breaks down the image by shape, material, color, and texture to find the best matches, eliminating the need for keyword searches like 'green modular sofa' or 'wiggle lamp'. Founder Giedre Gabrenaite explained: "Consumers don't struggle because there aren't enough furniture options online. They struggle because finding the right one is still far too difficult. We built ShopHomeStyles to close the gap between inspiration and purchase, helping people discover the products they actually want, not just the products that happen to rank highest in search results."

Brands and Product Range

The platform aggregates products from retailers including Anthropologie, Wilko, Furniture123, Emma, Ruggable, Wolf and Badger, Living and Home, Secret Linen, Vonhaus, Dunelm, and Marks and Spencer. It covers items from small decor like mugs, coasters, and cushions to larger purchases such as sofas, bed frames, and pouffes. Examples include the Dunelm 3-Seater Sofa with Buttoned Back in Green, the Choice Furniture Superstore Art Deco King Size Bed Frame in Blush Pink, and the Graham and Green Black Ikat Pouffe.

Testing the Platform

In a test, a user searching for an alternative to a £165 Oliver Bonas bedspread uploaded a Pinterest image. Shop Home Styles returned options including the Iluka Printed Quilted Bedspread from Anthropologie at £148, the Glassette Stella Quilted 100% Cotton Bedspread from Secret Linen at £149 (reduced to £119.20), and a budget-friendly Catherine Lansfield Autumn Patchwork Geometric Bedspread from Dunelm at £35. It also suggested Anthropologie's £78 Two-Way Printed Quilted Throw Blanket. Users can refine results by brand, price range, and color.

Suggestions for Improvement

While the platform is easy to navigate and delivers impressive results, one user noted a desire for more affordable UK-based brands such as Oliver Bonas, H&M Home, Piglet In Bed, Dusk, Habitat, and La Redoute. For users without a photo, the site also offers browsing by room type or specific items like lights, snuggle chairs, and bedspreads.

Comparison to Wayfair

Shop Home Styles is comparable to Wayfair, which stocks products from brands like B&M, Bedsure, Simba, Ninja, Le Creuset, and Furniture Box. Once shoppers find their ideal piece, they are directed to the brand's website to complete the purchase.
